The Second Continental delegates of the thirteen colonies of America tried to make peace with King George the third by sending him a letter. As he read it he became infuriated. He has just sent out 20,000 troops towards the thirteen colonies. The delegates are now discussing: Will it be peace or war? The Second Continental Congress has created an army called The Continental Army. Hopefully they can help.
This war involved many people from both British and American sides. Some people were Colonel William Prescott, General Gage, and General John Burgoyne, which were all on the British side. King George III was also involved. The Battle of Bunker Hill was the first major battle of the Revolution. It all started when the British approached the Patriots. The Americans held fire, but then shot at the British because they felt a threat. The Patriots attacked the British forts. The British captured Breed’s Hill and won the battle, due to the American’s low stock of ammo. Also, this battle proved how bravely the Americans fought. The actual battle took place in Boston near Breed’s Hill on June 17, 1775.
When the Patriots fired at the British, they had no choice but to fire back at them. The first British assault was at around 3:00 P.M. General William How sent out 2,200 men to fight. The American fire slowed down the British, but did not stop them. Some Americans gathered on Bunker Hill, but not many could move to their position on Breed’s Hill. After a while, the Americans ran low on ammo, forcing them to retreat. Therefore, the British won the Battle of Bunker Hill.
The siege of Fort Ticonderoga happened at May 10, 1775 lead by Ethen Allen. He and the Green Mountain Boys were to suprise attack Fort Ticonderoga because the fort stored ammunition and cannons if they successful carry out the seige for military operations.
Fort Ticonderoga was located southern tip of Lake Champlain. In order to make this operation complete, the only way to take over the British fort was to capture it by night. When Allen did so, the seige was a perfect success. The British commander realized he was surrounded so he had to surrender the fort to the Americans. Allen's success gave Ammericans control of a key route to Canada.
After hearing about all this many are worried that it might be war. The Continental Army has already been in most of these battles and it looks like the outcome is war. Colonial militias have been formed in every colony. This might turn out to be some kind of revolution. For sure there is no more peace between England and the colonies right now. It’s up to the colonies to decide. Will it be peace or war?
